Good morning all, next up on my blog i have a fun and traditional day to share with all you lovely readers, the wedding of Stu & Rachel. Stu comes from my home town of Halesowen, i was actually in his brothers school year so when we first met, it soon became apparent that we sort of new each other. Rachel grew up just down the road in Selly Oak and i had actually met her at a previous wedding i had covered for her friends Madeline & Chris a few years previous. So on our very first meeting we had a lot to discuss and that was before we got onto the wedding!
Roll on a year or so and there we are on the morning of the wedding at Rachel's parents house in Selly Oak. Im not going to lie, it didn't start very well for me. Having wheeled in my photography gear into their house, i bent down to grab my camera and lens of choice and heard an alright crack then a rush of air circulating around my neither regions, my trousers had split. When i say split, they had gone, from front to back! Now this was slightly embarrassing given I'm in a house with Rachel's family who i hadn't even had chance to introduce myself to. Ever the professional i contemplating continuing with my legs firmly held together but alas it was no good, i had to come clean. "Hi, I'm Darren, the wedding photographer, do you have a safety pin" was my first introduction to Rachel's mom. She very kindly helped me out but it was no good, the pin decided to bury itself into one of my buttocks when i walked down the stairs so i needed a plan B, call the wife for a spare pair.
Im pleased to report things picked up after that slight hiccup, with a lovely morning spent with the girls. From there we all headed over to St Marys Church, Selly Oak, a lovely 17th Century sandstone building with stunning interior and an elegant Lynchgate arch at its entrance. Following the intimate and emotional ceremony, the bridal party headed over to The Abbey Hotel, where the couple had chosen to host there reception and evening party. The Abbey Hotel is a well established and lovely wedding venue near Redditch with it own golf course, spa and beautiful gardens. The Henley In Arden Suite was looking impressive thanks to the expert help of Sarah at VIP functions who had also done a wonderful job with the flowers.
A lovely day spent with great company, follows are some of my favourite moments....
